Paardeplaats Activities:

see our ACTIVITIES page for more details

We host landscape photography adventures and workshops that will not only improve your digital photography skills but will also take you to places that you always wanted to visit. You will have the opportunity to get those special landscape photos while being at some of the most beautiful and iconic locations you always dreamed off. Internationally acclaimed photographer Des Jacobs, is planning a ‘night skys’ and ‘nature’ photography weekend, here on Paardeplaats, in May 2020 at the time of the new moon.  For more info contact either Brian 082 416 1379 or Des 076 858 6317. It would be necessary to book well in advance.

The activities that we offer on Paardeplaats are hiking (including our ‘Full Moon hike’), mountain biking, birding, fauna and flora – with an abundance of wild flowers through the summer months. We offer exciting tractor & trailer picnics, in our ‘Surrey with the Fringe’ in pristine nature, for up to 12 people, with a range of exciting picnic food available.

At 2000 meters we are ideally situated for altitude training.
We offer photography and cookery courses (see below), and weather permitting and for those with the right equipment, even star-gazing, in our crisp clear night skies, particularly in winter.
Our photography and cookery courses are ideal activities for smaller team building groups.
We also love to offer our venue as a spiritual retreat! Activities close by are: Craft beer tasting, Toboggan rides, and river fly fishing in one of South Africa’s best facilities. This would take a few days to arrange.

On Paardeplaats we have tried to create an ambiance of “family therapy” and “elegant simplicity”, with the focus on nature, so as not to detract from the beauty of the farm.

Please read The Paardeplaats Story (click here).

This will help you to understand the nature and history of our farm.
Our staff are here to welcome you, to help you move in, and to assist you with  your needs while you are here.
Please fill in our guest book and leave your cell numbers and e-mail addresses.
We welcome inquiries, so please do not hesitate to contact Brian. We invite you to relax, and enjoy our farm, with all it has to offer.
You, our guests, are special to us, and we hope that your stay here, will become a lasting memory!

How to Find Us:

(See our Diagrammatic Route Map under ‘Booking, Contact & Rates’)

Paardeplaats Nature Retreat is situated on the top of the Longtom Pass (R37), 12 km from the Lydenburg Wimpy, at kilometer post 12.4  The gate is on the left hand side, at the “JESUS” Hill.

Turn in at the gate (undo the clip, the gate is not locked) and travel on the gravel road for about one kilometer to Lucas’ stone house (on right), continue another 100 meters, then keep left at the fork in the road, to the bottom of the hill (about 500 meters). Keep left at the boom, and continue for another 200 meters to the car port and the house. Please use our diagrammatic route map, if you are not sure. See you there!

The geographic co-ordinates at our gate (km post 12.4) on Route R37 are:
S  25.099173º E 30.552929º

& at the lodge carport:
S  25.091688º  E 30.563842°

Please Note: The R36 between Bambi and Lydenburg is under construction at present, and because of  the bad road and mining lorries, is dangerous. We suggest rather using the R 540 from Belfast, Dullstroom to Lydenburg, to get to Paardeplaats.
